Golden Spike Beer Roundhouse BreweryWe Brainerd Lakes Area folk sure freaking love our summers. Boat time, backyard bashes, and Battlestar Galactica.

Tonight, I am writing this from my backyard. My second Golden Spike is nearing the bottom of the glass. In the background owls are cooing, “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for me?” The cool air is setting in, it’s definitely gonna be fall soon.

Oh hey, I’m Zach. I’m the new blog guy around these parts. I guess I should introduce myself. (Apparently the last guy kept on chuggin’ and never came back.) I have been a beer nerd since 2012 and I’ve been beer blogging in some shape or form since 2016. I am married to my wife of almost two years and we live in a cute little house in Nisswa with two little rascals for cats. I like beer and I hope you do, too.

This past weekend, my wife and I got a canoe (from my father in law) and took it for a paddle around the neighboring lake. The calm, early water was a beautiful way to start the day. Lately, it seems, we find ourselves acting like everyday is our last day of summer.

There are lots of potential beer plans for the rest of my summer. We are invited out for an afternoon on the water this upcoming weekend. I’m hoping to learn to wake surf while sipping on a beer – yes at the same time. We have a weekend getaway to the cities to drink some of our old favorite breweries and some new ones as well. Maybe I will catch Shake ‘Em Dirty at the brewery on August 23; I love me some classic rock. And then of course, there is the Minnesota State Fair. Have you seen that beer line up? I have no idea what I will drink, but count me in.

You have a lot you can still do with your summer, too. Seriously. Most of those things I just listed, you could do them. You still have the opportunity to make new friends, to try new beers, and even finish watching The Office for the thirteenth time. Get yourself some time on the lake. Take time to relax and do that self care you forgot about this summer. Squeeze out those last bits of summer while I sip down every last drop of this Golden Spike.

Keep on Chuggin’
